Our Aims, Objectives and History

The Handel Friends

The organisation formerly known as Friends of the London Handel Festival is to be known, from January 2019, as The Handel Friends. We have agreed with the London Handel Society that our previous title caused confusion and we have made a new start with a new name and other initiatives. Changing our focus from being a supporter organisation of the London Handel Festival we are seeking to strengthen our engagement with Handel events and organisations both in the UK and all over the world.

The Handel Friends continues the previous activities:

  • Three issues of the Handel News every year, filled with articles of interest to anyone who loves the music of the great George Frideric Handel, and also including a Review of Reviews of widely-reviewed performances in England and a comprehensive global list of forthcoming performances. The Newsletter is being restyled to give it a more attractive appearance.
  • Three Friends’ concerts will be held every year to complement the London Handel Festival events. These will feature younger performers, be very reasonably priced and substantial interval food and drink will be served at no additional cost. Please do bring your friends to these concerts to introduce them to the delights of Handel’s music.
  • As before we continue to provide advice to anyone who would like to visit the Handel Festivals in Halle, Goettingen and Karlsruhe.

Those people who join us and pay their subscription of £15 starting on 1 January 2019 will receive three issues of the Newsletter per annum. Handel News will continue to provide a wide selection of articles and serve as a discussion forum for the many people who love Handel’s music.

A further new initiative is this Web Site which is freely available to all. It contains back copies of Handel News and other items of interest.
